Objective

It has been over thirty years since Eritreans have been adopting Canada as their second homeland. According to current statistics, there are over 35,000  Canadians of Eritrean origin residing in various Provinces of Canada, 70% of which live in Ontario with the majority being in the city of Toronto.

Generally speaking as a community, our journey has been difficult. Like many other first generation immigrants in Canada our settlement continues to have challenges. However, as we continue to overcome these challenges it is self-defeating to dwell exclusively on problems and crises that will not lead to lasting resolutions.

Therefore Awate Award Board of Directors came with an idea of how to reflect positively on our achievements as Eritreans setting the stage for the younger generation so that they can be helped to successfully integrate into mainstream Canadian society without losing their Eritrean Heritage There is much past and present glorious history of achievement to be recognized and celebrated empowering us to display our positive contribution to Canadian society and ultimately promote excellence among members of the younger generation.

With the above thinking and spirit taken into heart, Awate Award objectives is to foster academic, professional and business excellence; promote volunteerism within persons of Eritrean origin residing in Canada and recognize exemplary Eritreans and friends of Eritrea primarily through award and recognition.
